About this destination

The Riviera Maya in Mexico is arguably one of the most idyllic places in the world.  There are so many things to do in the Riviera Maya that are fun, adventurous and budget-friendly!

Most people think Cancun is the start of the Riviera Maya, but this section stretches along the area just south of Cancun near Puerto Morelos and continues south to Tulum, before ending at Punta Allen inside the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.  In between lie pristine white sandy beaches, underground caverns, open-air cenotes (freshwater sinkholes which are perfect for diving and snorkelling), coastal cities, quaint fishing villages, Mayan archaeological ruins and much much more.  There are so many things to do and explore in the Riviera Maya which are perfect for the whole family.

While you’re staying at the Riviera Maya, try your hand at scuba diving in Tulum.  With many underground caverns and colourful off-shore reefs, Tulum has become famous for diving.  Some of Mexico’s most breathtaking archaeological ruins are situated in Riviera Maya, including the well-known Chichen Itza, so these are definitely worth a visit while you’re here.

The National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos is less crowded than its coastal neighbours but offers a beautiful and relaxing Mexican escape.  Morelos is a small but lively fishing village teeming with local life, offering a birds-eye view into Mayan and Mexican culture, while the coastal area offers beachfront restaurants overlooking clear turquoise waters.

5th Avenue, also known as La Quinta Avenida, in Playa del Carmen is worth a visit for its bustling bars, shops, galleries and markets, and is best explored on foot.

"One of the most beautiful resorts I have been to!"
