About this destination

Riverside Retreats at Blencowe Hall on the Rowley Estates are idyllic. Enjoy bluebells, red squirrels, songbirds and the turning of the seasons as colours shift in dappled light. At night the moon rises through laced branches of blackthorn and oak and the owls hoot. It’s so magical we want to offer you a way to linger here. Elm Retreat gives you a simple break in the heart of the wilderness.

Elm Retreat is sited in its own secluded spot along the River Petteril with a private river front woodland clearing and relaxing Adirondack chairs.

Your hut is architect-designed to enhance space and comfort. Inside, reconnect with a simpler life. There’s no WiFi here so swap stories, play cards by candlelight or read by solar power. At night, your oak floored cosy seating area transforms into a bedroom with a comfortable and spacious fold-down five foot king-size bed with Egyptian cotton bedding and Vispring mattress ensure you a luxurious night’s sleep.

Enjoy complete privacy with your own Scandinavian-style shower-room with a flushing loo and heated chrome towel rail, and open-plan kitchen with a gas hob, oven and a fridge. Or throw open the door onto your deck overlooking the river and dine al fresco using the Weber barbecue. Relax in the Adirondack chairs whilst throwing a log on the fire pit, enjoying the unlimited supply of locally sourced logs and count the stars in style. A perfect romantic break or a chance to just enjoy the peace and solitude of the lovely Cumbria and Lake District landscape.

Elm Retreat is just over a mile from Greystoke Village which can be reached by footpath from the hamlet of Blencowe. Set in the Eden Valley in Cumbria, considered one of the most beautiful and rural areas in England, Blencowe is situated on the edge of the Lake District about four miles from the Lake District National Park.
